Fresher and New(er) - Seb Chan, who works at the Powerhouse Museum, writes this blog about digital media and its use in museums.  Seb writes fantastic articles about the digital world.

 

Communities of Practice for Social Service this is 'a community platform supporting collaborative networks for those involved in local delivery: central departments, local authorities, other public bodies, frontline staff, health staff, people working in charities and the private sector who are in some way delivering for the public.'  It's a free resource that enables like-minded people to form online communities of practice, which are supported by collaboration tools that encourage knowledge sharing and learning from each others’ experiences.   If you type in 'social media' in the 'Find a community' box there are 35 different forums that are currently on the go that you can join.  It's a great resource for finding out what others in local government around the world are doing with social media and tackling similar issues.

 

Future Proof - Protecting our digital future - this blog is a State Records initiative for the NSW Government to help public offices to implement better systems for keeping digital records.  State Records will develop and issue standards that establish clear minimum requirements for system functionality and metadata, and more detailed specifications to help build or upgrade systems. They also offer practical advice on records migration and update their suite of guidelines and training to better reflect the challenges of digital recordkeeping.
